A trip into the rugged Bradshaw Mountains in Central Arizona. We are on our way to the 1890's ghosttown of Humbug, and the Pero Bonito Gold mine beyond!
The Pero Bonito (Handsome Dog) gold mine, was discovered in the mid-1880s, and grew to more than three levels before work stopped for good in 1939. The third level's main adit stretches 758-feet, with several horizontal and vertical shafts branching off. Dave Burns is pictured, showing me a quartz seam in the main adit. |
The journey to Humbug, is a fourty-minute helicopter ride from Phoenix's Sky Harbor Airport, or three-and-one-half-hours by car and offroad 4x4-vehicles - deep into the Bradshaw Mountains of beautiful Arizona. |
